A man accused of killing his wife at their Wellington home has been deemed fit to stand trial.

Najeebh Dawood was before the Wellington District Court Friday on several charges including murder and a charge of wounding his daughter.

His wife, Eman Hurmiz, 41, died from stab wounds outside their home in the eastern suburb of Strathmore last September.

Mr Dawood was initially treated in hospital for injuries suffered in the incident, but was later moved to a secure psychiatric facility.

Reports presented at Friday's hearing showed two psychiatrists had assessed him as being fit to stand trial and unlikely to be able to use a defence of insanity.

Judge Denys Barry remanded Mr Dawood back in custody until March.
