Ports of Auckland workers say the latest mediation talks with the ports company were a flop.
On Friday, the union and port company were in talks for most of the day over the workers' collective contract and the port's plan to outsource labour.
However, both sides say no progress was made.
Union members will walk off the job for seven days later from 24 February, after a partial five-day strike starting next Wednesday.
Maritime Union president Garry Parsloe says the port company will not budge on what it is offering, despite workers willing to be more flexible in the hours they work.
"We offered a lot of flexible changes to the company. They wanted flexibility, we offered those things up.
"They came back; they were extremely negative and we couldn't make any progress at all. It was a very negative day."
Ports of Auckland say the repeated strike action is a roadblock to progress.
Both parties have agreed to reconvene when either side has something new to bring to the table.
