The King of Tonga will be crowned on Friday morning, in a ceremony based on that of the British monarchy.
King George Tupou V is the 23rd ruler of Tonga.
While the King has given assent for an electoral commission on political change, Tongan prime minister Felete Sevele says the country will always have a monarch.
He says Tongan people are inextricably linked to their king, but recognise the time has come for constituitional change.
