Accused killer carjacker remanded in custody

A man accused of a carjacking that led to the death of a police officer has again appeared in Porirua District Court.

Andrew Popo, 32, faces charges including aggravated robbery, dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop after an accident.

Sergeant Derek Wootton died early on 11 July while laying road spikes in Titahi Bay in an effort to stop a stolen car. He was hit by the car and died at the scene.

The accused has been remanded in custody and will reappear in Court on 26 August.
