Festival financial future uncertain

Organisers of the Polyfest schools cultural festival in Auckland say its financial future is under threat after a withdrawal of Government funding.

The 37th Polyfest from 14 - 17 will be the biggest yet, with more than 9000 performers from more than 60 secondary schools and nearly 100,000 spectators.

But event manager Tania Karauria says the event lost money last year and is facing a shortfall this time with just a fortnight to go.

She says the event has lost some corporate sponsors due to the economic downturn, but says the change in Government in 2008 is the biggest factor.
