Fiji's interim Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has been defending the Independent Commission Against Corruption and its role.
Speaking after an Attorney General's conference in Sigatoka, he said the state had to have such an institution to ensure a level playing field for economic opportunities.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum questioned why lawyers told those charged by Fiji's Commission against Corruption to challenge its legality.
He argued that the Commission was transparent and denied that it was pursuing a clandestine agenda.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum told the Fiji village news site that the Independent Commission Against Corruption was an institution that could arrange strong foundations for true democracy.
