Fiji's Bainimarama describes petition to have elections this year as toilet paper

Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has dismissed a petition to have elections this year, describing it as toilet paper.

The organisers of a petition claim more than half the nation's eligible voters want to go to the polls this year.

They claim to have the support of more than 600,000 people.

Commodore Bainimarama has said he will not relinquish power for another four years when he has said elections will be held.

He seized power more than three years ago and 10 months ago he imposed emergency regulations which ban gatherings and censor the media.
