People living on Manono island in Samoa now have an extra water supply.

Over the weekend, a project that turns sea water to drinking water was launched.

Samoa's first ever solar desalination plant was built with the help of the Apia Lions Club in partnership with Lions International.

The 40 solar panels convert 8000 litres of seawater into 800 litres of drinking water daily.

The residents of the island currently rely on rainwater collected in tanks for their daily water supply.
