Meeting arrangements

12:48 pm on 10 January 2013

The Prime Minister has confirmed to the families of the 29 men who died at Pike River that he will organise a meeting between his advisors and their experts to discuss body recovery.

A spokesperson for some of the families, Bernie Monk, says he received a letter from John Key a few days before Christmas agreeing to the meeting.

Mr Monk said the discussion is the result of a conversation he had with Mr Key last month where he said the families would keep fighting until all the experts met to discuss their conflicting views.

The Government's advisors don't think recovery is feasible, but the families' experts do.

Mr Monk said they need to reach a consensus and the planned meeting will allow this to happen.

Both parties are now working on dates for when everyone is available.
