Diplomatic criticism of ministry restructure muzzled - Goff

5:17 pm on 8 March 2012

Some of the country's top diplomats have voiced their opposition to plans to restructure the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

But the Labour Party's foreign affairs spokesperson Phil Goff says they have been muzzled in their attempts to make their complaints directly to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Murray McCully.

During Parliament's Question Time Mr Goff said top ambassadors to Argentina and Singapore had sent cables to Mr McCully criticising the plan to restructure the ministry.

Mr McCully is on a ministry-organised trip to Myanmar so Chris Finlayson answered on his behalf, saying nothing would be done to undermine the effectiveness of the ministry.
