Prime Minister John Key is confident the Sky City convention centre deal will not hurt the Government politically.
Mr Key is facing criticism from opposition parties and interest groups about the to build the centre, which is likely to allow the Sky City casino to operate more gaming machines.
But he is standing by the move and says he has no plans to review the decision.
Critics claim that the Government is in effect selling a law change to Sky City in order to get the convention centre built, which Mr Key says is absolute nonsense.
While he acknowledges pokie machines can cause harm, he says the overall number of gaming machines in New Zealand has decreased while National has been in power.
