An agreement between New Zealand and Canada to prevent cross-border business income being taxed twice has been signed at Parliament.

The double tax agreement was signed on Wednesday with Canada's Minister of International Trade Ed Fast.

Revenue Minister Peter Dunne says the agreement it replaces the 1980 treaty.

Mr Dunne says it will help reduce tax impediments to trade and investment by making clearer how business income will be taxed.
