Budget documents show $6 million was transferred between government departments to help pay for the Rugby World Cup party zone in central Auckland.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had a budget of $10 million for hosting guests during the event and spent $3.5 million.

But $6 million was transferred from Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Economic Development to help pay for additional costs from the extension of the Queens Wharf Fanzone.

Labour foreign affairs spokesperson Phil Goff says the Foreign Affairs budget was raided to pay for the Government's botched handling of the fan zone.
