Govt urged to act over fishing crew wages

1:15 pm on 6 August 2012

Labour is urging the Government to act over wages that apparently have not been paid to fishing crew on foreign chartered vessels.

MP Darien Fenton says more than 100 crew, including 32 from the Oyang 75 and the Shin Ji - which had both been subject to investigations into crew abuse - are owed money.

She estimates that between three and six months' pay is owed, at the minimum wage.

The Government says independent auditors are tracking payments to all foreign fishing vessels.
