Labour is calling on Prime Minister John Key to apologise to Hungary for questioning the courage of its troops in Afghanistan.
Earlier in the week, Mr Key - in response to questions about the deaths of two New Zealand soldiers in Bamiyan last Saturday - said Hungarian troops might go out at night in Budapest, but not in Bamiyan's neighbouring province Baghlan.
Labour foreign affairs spokesperson Phil Goff says it was a gratuitous remark, particularly when Hungary has had seven soldiers killed in Afghanistan.
