Maori Party meeting Govt

The Maori Party is meeting the Government on Monday morning to urge it to take account of the Waitangi Tribunal water report and delay the sale of shares in Mighty River Power.

Finance Minister Bill English leaves on Monday evening for a meeting of APEC finance ministers in Russia,via Hong Kong.

The tribunal report says Maori have proprietary rights in water and the sale of up to 49% of the shareholding in Mighty River Power should be delayed until the Government has reached an accommodation with Maori.

The Maori Party wants the Government to take heed of the Tribunal report and delay the sales process.
