The MP behind a bill that would register lobbyists has admitted that its definitions are too wide and need to be changed.
Green MP Holly Walker has appeared before the Government Administration committee to speak about her bill, which would set up a disclosure regime for anyone who tries to influence MPs, their staff or public servants.
Ms Walker says it needs to be made more workable as the current definition of lobbying would capture individuals lobbying their local MP.
She is happy for the bill to be changed through the select committee process as long as it continues to recognise that lobbying is a legitimate activity; that the public has a right to know who influences key decisions; and that the regime is workable, practical and fair.
