Trade is expected to be top of the agenda when the Prime Minister and President Benigno Aquino of the Phillipines meet this week.
It will be Mr Aquino's first visit to New Zealand.
Press secretary Ricky Carandang says improving the trade relationship between New Zealand and his country will be a top priority.
He says that means more Phillipines product being sold in this country, and not just the traditional fruit and furniture, but trading higher value goods including knowledge based technology.
Mr Aquino arrived in New Zealand on Sunday.
