Greens accuse minister of supporting salmon farm expansion

10:57 am on 2 November 2012

The Green Party says the Government shouldn't be voicing its support for New Zealand King Salmon's application to expand its operation in the Marlborough Sounds.

The Minister for Primary Industries, David Carter, has told an aquaculture conference in Nelson he hopes for a positive outcome following a recent Environmental Protection Authority hearing.

Green MP Stefan Browning says Mr Carter's presentation was nothing less than a political statement.

But the minister says the decision is up to the Environmental Protection Authority, not the Government.

New Zealand King Salmon wants to double it's farm space in the Marlborough Sounds.
