A bill, which would force an inquiry into privacy breaches in Government agencies, has been drawn from the Member's ballot at Parliament.
The Electronic Data Safety Bill, sponsored by Labour MP Clare Curran, would also trigger an investigation into how agencies respond to privacy breaches, and how such lapses could be prevented in future.
A second bill was also drawn, which would make it illegal for a person to have a hand-held laser in a public place without reasonable explanation.
There are currently no laws in New Zealand to govern the possession of hand-held lasers in public.
The bill, in the name of National MP Cam Calder, would give police the power to confiscate such lasers.
Both bills will be introduced to the House for debate on an upcoming Members' day.
