MPs who leave their party should quit Parliament - survey

7:37 am on 18 December 2012

Nearly three quarters of people surveyed in the latest UMR poll think that if a list MP has been expelled from their party, they should quit Parliament altogether.

The survey question was prompted by the recent expulsion of Brendan Horan from the New Zealand First caucus, after accusations that he stole money from his late mother.

Mr Horan said he's done nothing wrong and will stay on as an independent MP.

Some 70% of those surveyed believe expelled list MPs should leave Parliament altogether.

Another 16% said they should be allowed to stay, with 14% undecided.

The poll surveyed 750 people with a margin of error of +/-3.6%.
