The Sultan of Brunei will arrive in New Zealand next week for a four-day state visit.
Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae says His Majesty Hassanal Bolkiah's visit builds on the positive and friendly relationship between the two countries.
The Sultan will chair the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year.
Sir Jerry says ASEAN is taking an increasingly important role in New Zealand's future in helping to maintain peace and security in the region.
The Sultan arrives in Wellington on Monday and leaves on Thursday. He will be accompanied by three ministers and about 50 officials.
He will attend a state dinner and lay a wreath at the National War Memorial.
