Changes to the child support system have passed their third and final reading in Parliament.
The Child Support Amendment Bill overhauls how child support is calculated, by taking both parents' income into account rather than just the paying parent.
The number of nights a year used to determine shared care will also be reduced from 40% to 28%.
The legislation passed by 71 votes to 49 with the support of the National Party, New Zealand First, the Maori Party, ACT, United Future and independent MP Brendan Horan.
