Federated Farmers has told the Labour Party conference in Rotorua that changing monetary policy is one of the key issues that needs to be addressed.

It is the first time Federated Farmers has addressed a Labour conference.

Dairy chairman Lachlan MacKenzie said the volatility of the New Zealand dollar is a big problem.

Businessman Selwyn Pellett also spoke and urged the party to look at a policy of managing the currency.

Mr Pellett said exporters are being hurt by the high value of the dollar and more should be done to help them.
