Maori-Mana alliance unlikely until trust restored - Turia

Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia says trust would have to be restored between the party and Mana before any kind of discussions could be held by the two political parties.

Mana leader Hone Harawira would like his party and the Maori Party to come together as a single party to represent Maori.

The matter was raised by a number of party members gathered at the Maori Party's annual meeting on Saturday.

Ms Turia said there is a significant issue with Mr Harawira, that would have to be addressed before any talks could be held.

She said there is a lot of work that has to be done to restore the party's trust in Mr Harawira.

New co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell has previously said it would be difficult for him to work closely with Mr Harawira again.
