Labour vows to repeal charter school legislation

10:00 pm on 29 July 2013

The Labour Party has confirmed it will repeal the charter school legislation if it wins the next election.

The Government is expected to announce the successful applicants for the first charter schools soon.

Labour leader David Shearer said on Monday charter schools are an ideological experiment inflicted on the country as the result of a dodgy deal between the ACT party and National.

Mr Shearer said Labour has been working with groups in the education sector to draft a bill repealing recent Education Act changes that allow charter schools to be established and it will be ready to go if it wins the election in 2014.
