ACT Party leader John Banks says he welcomes the Government's decision to pull a provision from a fisheries bill giving iwi a temporary exemption.
However, Mr Banks appears to have jumped the gun, with the Primary Industries Minister saying only that he has some concerns and will seek further advice.
The bill requires all foreign flagged, joint venture vessels to be reflagged as New Zealand vessels by 2016.
However, a parliamentary committee has recommended that some iwi operators be given more time to comply.
A spokesperson for the minister says Mr Banks is incorrect in his belief that the iwi amendment has been pulled, as a decision has not yet been made.
