Govt releases info on schools' performances

10:38 pm on 3 September 2013

The Government has released new, detailed breakdowns of the performances of all schools, including pre-schools.

Education Minister Hekia Parata says the information will give parents and communities a fuller picture of how their children are doing.

The information has been released on the Ministry of Education's website, under a new Know Your Region section.

It details student achievement and financial information, as well as national standards and NCEA results on every school in the country, including early childhood education.

The minister says overall, the results indicate the system serves most of students well and that things are improving.

But she says achievements rates among Maori and Pasifika students continue to be lower at all levels of education.

Ms Parata says the information is not just about schools alone but for councils, businesses, NGOs and the Government to understand what the challenges are.
