Education Minister Hekia Parata has confirmed on Monday that an independent review of public funding to Te Kohanga Reo National Trust Board is underway.

The review has been set up following allegations that the trust's commercial arm, Te Pataka Ohanga, mis-used business credit cards to pay for dresses, fuel, and accommodation.
The review will identify any gaps in financial controls and make recommendations how to improve controls.
Ms Parata says it is imporant that kohanga reo parents and whanau do not consider this to be a review of them, because it is not.
The minister expects it to be completed by mid-December.
