New Zealand First has elected its No 2 MP, Tracey Martin, as the deputy to leader Winston Peters.
Ms Martin was the only nomination for the position. She says there was a delay in choosing a deputy this parliamentary term while the caucus got to know one another better.
Ms Martin says it is her aim to ensure that New Zealand First comes back to Parliament bigger and better in 2014 and she will do that by working hard and spreading the party's message.
She says she hopes the fact she is woman and different from Mr Peters will broaden the party's appeal.
Winston Peters has refused to discuss when he might retire.
