United Future leader Peter Dunne says he is annoyed the Prime Minister says he would welcome ACT party leader John Banks back to his ministerial job, but will not give him the same assurance.

Mr Banks has stepped down from his ministerial posts while he fights charges of filing an incorrect electoral return.

However, John Key says he will be welcomed back if the charges are dismissed.

Mr Dunne resigned his ministerial posts when he refused to co-operate with an inquiry into the leaking of a Government report.

He told TV3's The Nation programme on Saturday he was annoyed Mr Key had not given him the promise given to Mr Banks.

But Mr Dunne says he accepts that is a matter for Mr Key and he is getting on with the job he was elected to do as a MP.
