Ms Tolley says police training in New Zealand has not been reviewed in years and it is time to ensure it remains suitable and meets the needs of police officers.

The minister will visit the Queensland and Victoria Police training academies and meet state police ministers.

She says she will consider how Australian police jurisdictions are adapting and changing their training, and will also be discussing child protection issues as well as tackling gangs.

Ms Tolley is in Australia until the end of the month.
