Firm named to look into Chorus position

10:12 am on 16 November 2013

An Australian-based company will look into the financial position of telecommunications network company Chorus.

Chorus has said its business and the ultra fast broadband contract it has with the Government are at risk from a Commerce Commission decision to cut what it can charge for the use of its copper network for phone and broadband services.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Amy Adams says Ernst & Young Australia was chosen after consideration of the absence of conflicts of interest and the availability of specialist skills such as telecommunications.

Ms Adams says the investigation will assess the impact of the commission's decision on Chorus, Chorus's contractual obligations and the possibilities for Chorus to adjust its operational and capital costs, debt facilities and dividend policies.

The report is due back by 12 December.
