McCully indicates he will contest East Coast Bays

Another National MP appears to be unwilling to step aside to gift the Conservative Party an electorate seat so it can gain representation in Parliament and guarantee National a coalition partner.

Under proposed new electorate boundaries, two new seats will be created in Auckland while one existing seat - Waitakere - disappears.

Waitakere MP Paula Bennett says if that happens she will contest the new Upper Harbour seat, which Conservative Party leader Colin Craig has also indicated an interest in.

It has been suggested National's East Coast Bays MP, Murray McCully, might stand aside - but Prime Minister John Key says Mr McCully is indicating he wants to contest his seat again.

Mr Key says the issue will be assessed next year.
