The Women's Affairs Minister is encouraging more women to put themselves forward as candidates for state sector boards.

Jo Goodhew says the Government has a commitment to have women holding 45 percent of positions on state sector boards and committees by this year.

Ms Goodhew says over the last eight years the participation rates by women have ranged from 40.7 to 42.3 percent.

She says women interested in serving on the boards and committees should forward their details to the Ministry of Women's Affairs.
