Its co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell said the party's campaign would be based around policies to help whanau.

He said the party was not worried about its political opponents in the Maori seats, despite the Labour Party and the Mana Movement also targeting them.

"We have confidence, our people have confidence, our party has confidence in the group of people that have been selected for our party and we're on a journey and the journey is clean-up the seats."

Mr Flavell said the Maori Party would also be standing candidates in some general seats.
