The Education Ministry should step in earlier to help troubled schools, Education Minister Hekia Parata says.

Ms Parata today published a working group's review of the statutory interventions used in schools.

Radio New Zealand received a copy of the review in August and, as reported then, the review recommends greater transparency around commissioners and managers hired to put schools back on track.

Ms Parata said the Government wanted to help schools fix their own difficulties and intervene formally only as a last resort.
