Cabinet has decided to lift all remaining restrictions on Fiji following its general election in September.

An Air Force Orion will patrol Fiji's exclusive economic zone on Saturday to mark the occasion.

Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee said the flight would be the first significant military contact between both countries since December 2006.

He said the NZDF would rebuild engagement with its Fijian counterparts.
