National MP to reassure public servants

3:13 pm on 5 August 2008

National MP Mark Blumsky is to write to some public servants to assure them their jobs will be safe if there is a change of government.

National plans to cap the number of public servants if it forms the next government.

In a survey sent to voters in the Wellington and Rongotai electorates, Mark Blumsky asks: "Are you or any of your family a public servant?"

The Wellington-based list MP says he will write to public servants who respond to his survey.

Mr Blumsky, who is retiring from politics at the election, says there is misinformation about National's plans.

The Public Service Association says Mr Blumsky is naive to believe a letter will reassure public servants. The union says capping the state sector would not be enough to pay for National's promised tax cuts.
