Hide told to leave Parliament

2:01 pm on 27 August 2008

ACT party leader Rodney Hide has been ejected from Parliament on Tuesday in a fiery exchange after asking a series of questions about New Zealand First leader Winston Peters.

Mr Hide was repeatedly warned by Speaker Margaret Wilson, who finally ordered him to leave the debating chamber.

Mr Hide's questions were directed at Prime Minister Helen Clark and raised allegations that New Zealand First had received money from prominent members of the fishing industry.

Mr Peters objected, saying the matters were part of a defamation case he has taken against several media organisations and therefore sub judice.

Ms Wilson agreed and told Mr Hide he could not refer to details of the case.
