The new Chief Ombudsman plans to publish a table ranking government agencies on compliance with the Official Information Act.

Judge Peter Boshier said agencies should act on the requests without having to clear them with a minister's political advisor.

"We pretty much know who are good compliers with the act and who are not and probably it would be good for the public to know that as well."

He told TV3's The Nation his office would cut down on time taken to deal with such requests.

Judge Boshier said he would be releasing the table in July, and was announcing it now so agencies which might have been poor performers in the past could lift their compliance.
