Clark in New York for interview for UN post

2:02 pm on 24 February 2009

Former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark has made the initial shortlist for a top post at the United Nations. She is in New York for a job interview this week.

Miss Clark was one of up to 30 people to apply to become administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, which is the third highest ranking position in the United Nations.

It's understood that fewer than 10 people, including Miss Clark, are being seen for the position this week by a formal interview panel.

The panel will then make recommendations to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, who will make the final decision.
