Corrections needs more money, says Rennie

State Services Commissioner Iain Rennie has told MPs that more funding for the Corrections Department is needed if its performance is to improve.

Mr Rennie appeared before Parliament's law and order select committee on Wednesday to discuss his report into who is accountable for failings in the management of parole matters, as identified by an Auditor-General's report.

Mr Rennie found it would be unjustified for the department's chief executive, Barry Matthews, to lose his job as improvements were being made.

He reiterated the report's finding that the department needed more money if the public was to have confidence in the organisation.
