PM plays down differences over economic outlook

7:56 am on 7 April 2009

Prime Minister John Key is playing down differences with his deputy, Finance Minister Bill English, on the outlook for the economy.

Mr English has said he expects a relatively slow recovery from the world recession, in contrast with Mr Key, who expects New Zealand to come out of the recession by the end of the year.

Mr Key says he is an optimist, though neither he nor Mr English claims to know exactly when New Zealand will come out of the recession.

The Prime Minister says he and Mr English are 'locked at the hip' about the policy required to take New Zealand out of the recession.
