Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop is in New Zealand to meet with her New Zealand counterpart, Murray McCully.
Mr McCully said the pair met twice a year to discuss foreign affairs matters that both countries had in common.
He said they would be looking ahead to the annual Australia New Zealand Leaders' meeting early next year.
They also planned to discuss shared interests in Asia and the Middle East, including New Zealand's continued work on the United Nations Security Council.
Ms Bishop will be leaving New Zealand tomorrow.
