Political stand-off in Worth case continues

5:06 pm on 7 June 2009

Prime Minister John Key is maintaining his position that he will not meet with a woman who claims she was pursued sexually by National MP Richard Worth, unless she can verify the allegations.

Mr Key wants to see evidence of inappropriate phone calls and texts before he can consider removing Dr Worth from caucus.

Mr Key made the comments while campaigning with Melissa Lee in the Mount Albert electorate.

The Prime Minister initially said he would meet the woman personally, but now says he wants his Chief of Staff to speak with her first.

Mr Key says an intermediary is necessary to establish the facts before a meeting takes place.

He says if the woman presents the text messages, a meeting will take place immediately.

Richard Worth has already stepped down as a Government minister over a separate sexual allegation against him, involving a different woman.
