Fewer marine reserves likely in near future - Labour

Former Conservation Minister Steve Chadwick says it looks as though the creation of new marine reserves is now off the map for the time being.

The Department of Conservation has told a Parliamentary select committee that the Government does not want the department to be both the applicant and the processor for marine reserve proposals.

Ms Chadwick says the former Labour Government led on the development of marine reserves by setting a target and then went out to meet it.
