More time is needed to complete the investigation into the appointment of the Auditor-General, a senior civil servant has told the Speaker of the House.

The investigation was ordered last month by the committee of MPs that made the appointment.
Martin Matthews stood down at that time after questions were raised about how he dealt with convicted fraudster Joanne Harrison while he was the head of the Ministry of Transport.
Mr Matthews has said he regretted that Harrison's fraud occurred under his watch and wished he had detected it earlier.
Speaker David Carter initially said the committee would like to have Sir Maarten Wevers' report within a fortnight.
He said Sir Maarten had contacted him to let him know it was going to take a bit longer, but that was likely to be a few more weeks, rather than months.
