Easter trading laws 'an ass'

A Labour MP who has been trying to reform holiday trading rules for ten years says the current law is an ass and needs to be fixed.

Most farmers' markets opened for trading on Easter Sunday, claiming they were authorised, but some stayed shut for fear of prosecution.

List MP Steve Chadwick says by far the best way of solving the problem is to allow individual areas to set their own rules on which retailers can trade on Easter Sunday.

Last year, a Parliamentary Bill proposing this was defeated at its first reading, however Ms Chadwick believes that in next term of Parliament another MP will make an attempt to change the rules.
