Should voters' details be published? Greens ask

12:15 pm on 4 December 2011

The Green Party says the question of the publication of voters' details on electoral rolls need to be addressed before the next election.

Enrolment is compulsory for eligible voters; this year, just over 93% percent enrolled before polling day.

Green MP Gareth Hughes says he is hearing that some people do not want to enrol because their details will be made public.

He says it is a critical issue, as these people do not get to have a say on election day.

Mr Hughes says the regular post-election review by Parliament's Justice and Electoral Select Committee should also address low voter turnout.
